Lighting track

TRACKS

Lighting tracks were a little disused but are back thanks to new applications.

Today there are many types of light tracks. The majority are surface mounted rails but some models can be built into the ceiling which makes them a lot more discreet. White, black and silver are the most common finishes.

The biggest distinction lies in the number of wires provided within the rail. There is the 1-phase rail, the 2-phase rail, and the 3-phase rail. To keep it simple, the 1-phase rail can be connected to one switch. This rail can handle 16A. In modern LED times this is almost an unlimited number of spots you can place but all switched on or off with the same switch.

The 2-phase rail can have 16A also but there may be two power sources, so two switches can be connected. You can also use a large number of spots that can be connected in two groups.

The 3-phase rail is more for professional applications and capable of 3x 16A. It is a slightly thicker rail and you have a very wide range of spots that can be placed on it. Actually, these tracks are universal. Any 3-phase spot of any brand can be connected on it. The spots on the track can be switched into three groups.
